H1N1 (swine flu) Billing & Coding for Medicare

Hey - Thanks to my friends @ PHIA for passing this along... Medicare has come out with instructions for coding and billing for administration of the vaccine for the H1N1 (swine flu) virus... Also.. Thanks to all of you for letting me put out this mid-week blog post. I felt this is important information to be passed along!

http://www.cms.hhs.gov/transmittals/downloads/R1801CP.pdf

highlights include:

  • H1N1 Vaccine and Administration Level II HCPCS Codes Effective 9/1/2009
  • G9141, Influenza A (H1N1) immunization administration (includes the physician counseling the patient/family
  • G9142, Influenza A (H1N1) vaccine, any route of administration)
  • Payment for the administration of the H1N1 vaccine is the same as the payment established for G0008 and G0009
  • Beneficiary copayment and deductible do not apply to HCPCS code G9141.

Be sure to check with your private insurance payors to see if they will be recognizing the new HCPCS codes, and also.. add these codes into your code books, so you have easy reference to them!

Happy coding!!!!
